Over 11,600 deepfake videos removed as complaints surge eightfold in 18 months
Malaysia has taken down more than 11,600 pieces of deepfake content since early 2024, with complaints jumping eightfold to 7,967 by mid-June 2025. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching outlined new enforcement measures requiring social media platforms to combat AI-generated deception.
