Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the nation's development agenda to deliver tangible benefits to all Malaysians, with particular focus on reaching those in rural and lower-income communities. Speaking at a gathering with fishing and farming communities in Muar on June 15, he stressed that prosperity and progress cannot remain confined to major infrastructure initiatives or cutting-edge technological pursuits.
Anwar highlighted that the MADANI Government remains committed to improving the livelihoods of rural populations, including small-scale agricultural and fishing communities, alongside pursuing technological advancement. He emphasised that high-tech ventures such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation, while necessary for long-term competitiveness, must not overshadow the welfare needs of those working the land and seas.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of political leadership demonstrating genuine engagement with grassroots concerns. He called on Cabinet members and government officials to regularly venture into communities to directly hear and address public grievances, rather than managing issues solely through bureaucratic channels.
Anwar stressed that the government channels resources through various agencies to ensure social safety nets and targeted assistance reach intended beneficiaries effectively. He warned against any development model that leaves certain segments of society behind, arguing that inclusive growth requires political courage to represent the interests of marginalised communities.
The Prime Minister's remarks reflect the government's stated commitment to balanced development that acknowledges both the importance of modernisation and the immediate needs of Malaysia's rural workforce. He reiterated that responsible governance demands direct accountability to those at the foundation of society.
